Chairman

Jim has been a thought leader and mentor to investment strategists, economists and portfolio managers for many decades. Beginning in 1999, Jim was Vice Chairman of ISI Inc. and a member of ISI Group’s Investment Committee. From 1995 to 1999, he was the Chief Investment Officer Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. Between 1973 and 1995, Jim served as President of C.J. Lawrence and its successor companies. 

Jim first joined Cyrus J. Lawrence & Sons as a financial analyst in 1957.  In 1962, he was promoted to Research Director. In 1964, he was made a General Partner of the firm and became Managing Partner in 1971.  When C.J. Lawrence incorporated in 1973, he was named Chief Executive Officer. Jim is a former Director of The New York Stock Exchange (1986-92) and of the Securities Industry Association.

Jim received his MBA from the Wharton Business School in 1956 and his BA from Williams College in 1954. He is a former Chairman of the Board and current Trustee of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, a Trustee of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.  He also serves on the Finance Committee of Williams College and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
